In deciding to start a blog, I thought hard about why I choose to read blogs and whether mine might serve a worthwhile purpose. Ideally, I’ll be aiming for at least one of these desirable targets:
1. PERSONAL: I follow a few people’s narratives because it’s a great way to keep in touch from afar, such as Mr. Matthew Meador or Katie. There’s obviously a fine line between simply paying attention and legally stalking, but if a person’s life if uniquely interesting, then I’m never shy to get my private e-fill of their stories. Don’t be shy; that’s all I’m saying.
2. PRACTICAL: I love reading simple useful reminders and learning new tidbits about a topic in which I’m already interested, such as personal finance or quilting. And, I certainly can’t forget a shout out to Jon’s beery-techie greenethumb.com. Clever URL, eh? Get it?
3. PRETTY FUNNY: Most people have a quicker response than I to “What’s-funny-on-the-Internet?”, and I’ve been alerted to several ridiculous sites which I enjoy every now and then, such as this and that. These are probably so 2007, but I’m quick like that.
I can’t promise a whole lot of practical information, nor high-powered humor, but I certainly do hope to keep more family and friends updated on our life in Boston, the delightful adventures of early marriage, the strange pass/ulcer/fail academic experiences at Harvard, the wonderful world of oral-health-equity, and the joys of slumlording from afar.
