Let’s just say that getting back into the routine of focusing well, studying hard, and repeating this cycle daily is just not catching on yet, and is even starting to bother me. It’s difficult to muster motivation for the robust study of basic Pharmacology when:
By the time I got my book, 6 chapters had been assigned
It’s not covered on our major end-of-year exam (“The Boards”)
I may or may not have attended any of the 6 lectures last Thursday-Friday
THERE’S NO TEST!
Obviously, I have great respect for our course directors and understand that any class, no matter the duration, deserves my attention and effort. I am very lucky to even have this opportunity bla bla bla bla, but STILL. It’s not easy to reign in the exciting memories of summer adventures, calm office work, and leisurely patio breakfasts with Jon, and just snap back to the reality of Medental school. Soon enough, I’ll be in a clinic awkwardly touching old people once-a-week, and wishing that Pharm was my main concern. Until then, I need a focus transplant. Stat.
When I turn my whining down, though, it’s fun to recognize that this is truly a milestone school year for our entire family. The youngest member on both sides, Sir Austin (age 5) is beginning Kindergarten very soon (eeeek!), and BOTH of my younger sisters are about to enter their final undergraduate fall semesters… that’s huge!
I feel better now just thinking about that, and might even get through the assigned chapter on Local Anesthetics before being numbly lured to the realm of sleep. Good one, Colleen.
