I couldn’t have been a more uninformed American at today’s Senate primary vote in Jamaica Plain. There are four democratic contenders vying for the late Edward Kennedy’s seat, and I did nearly zero research before deciding to vote for the one woman on the ballot. She could become lucky #18 out of 100 in the Senate - an all-time high for female representation!
Despite my somewhat primitive logic, it still felt wonderfully responsible to march up the stairs of the ADORABLE historic Curtis Hall Community Center and say hello to the dozen old lady misfit volunteers who were there to carefully monitor me and ONE other voter in the upstairs room where I happily voted for President Obama over a year ago. It was a far more crowded and energetic atmosphere at that time, but there was still a very satisfying sense of democracy and cheezy “I am so grateful we get to do this!” kind of thoughts in my brain throughout tonight’s quiet 60-second voting experience.
Last year’s election was so much fun, for several reasons, including the fact that it fell on Jon’s 26th birthday! We celebrated with dinner at the Sunset Grill and Tap, and were stunned to learn the outcome of the election before evening heading home! It was so early, especially compared to the 2004 nail-biter.
It’s surprising to me that CNN.com doesn’t seem to have any mention of this run-off on their U.S. or Politics page, but I’m sure the real contest in January will garner more attention. As for now, God bless America!
