As in, time to begin exploring options in the world of SmartPhones. For some communities in my life, this makes me a very late bloomer and for others it will never ever be a purchase worth considering. Either way, the time has come to be a bit more connected to communication, information, and a freakin’ map no matter where I’m beeboppin’ around.
After 15 hours in a car last week, with a faulty cell phone battery and no GPS, the vague idea that I’ll get one eventually accelerated into an urgent thought that I need one as soon as I’m done with the board exam. This spring has been the most dense period of travel in my whole life. Although I love the escape of roaming around via airplanes, there’s something to be said for the efficiency of checking email, accessing information, and simply knowing where the hell you’re at without having to bust out the laptop at the nearest sketchy McDonalds and praying for a decent connection.
Next year I’ll be at a new school, with a new routine of classes, meetings and socializing, but also working very hard to stay connected to my current dental besties as they drill into the unknown next door. Having minute-to-minute access to this new world online seems appropriate. And, possibly neurotic. But it’s a risk I’m willing to take, and frankly a characteristic I’ve been developing for years. Onwards!
