One of the greatest honors of teaching science was being compared to this famous educator. And by that I mean my students would say peaceful things like, “QUIT SHOUTING, MS. FRIZZLE” or “WHAT ARE YOU ON?!” I’m pretty sure it was because of my frizzilicious hair, clown expressions, and obnoxious lilt, but I’ll take it. imfreebutimfocused: ‘PLEASE JUST LET THIS BE A NORMAL FIELD TRIP” “with the frizz?? 6 years ago today, I greeted a homeroom of 14 lovely high school juniors who I would closely follow until graduation, and beyond. Guess why today is the best first day of school ever? ONE of those talented young women in my advisory had her first day of school as a SCIENCE TEACHER and 2011 TFA corps member. This is one of the coolest possible outcomes of teaching that I could have ever imagined. SO PROUD OF YOU SHANNON! parttimecoatthief: Display in the apple store window! "In terms of its content, Teach for America is completely different from Goldman Sachs or McKinsey or Harvard Medical School or Berkeley Law, but in terms of its place within the structure of elite expectations, of elite choices, it is exactly the same… You don’t have to make it up yourself, you don’t have to do anything but apply and do the work­—just like college or law school or McKinsey or whatever. BURRRRRNN! OUCH! Zing! This is the second article I’ve read in two days that basically surmise I’m a soulless pompous a-hole with racist tendencies. The first one argued that focusing on oral health in minority populations is akin to eugenics.
