Is it weird that I just impulse purchased this fabulous book on Amazon? Though I have not read it in around 20 years? But I’m fully convinced that it’s retained its awesomeness?

sideways stories from wayside school has an incredibly detailed wikipedia article.  wow.

Greenerie Trivia: this month marks the 20th anniversary of my favorite elementary school teacher telling my Mom to get my eyes checked, which quickly led to my first pair of glasses.
Instead of appearing “dull” like poor Johnny, I had been moving closer and closer to the chalkboard over time, such that the first row was BEHIND me, so that I could read everything properly.
Between my descent into corrective lens dependency and Bill Clinton’s announcement that he would run for president, October 1991 was an epic time in American history.

Dear Journal,
This morning the Endeavor went to the Hubble and put some new lens in. I’m going for a scholarship to go to space camp free. I haven’t started yet but I will soon.
Yesterday our sub was nice. Last [night] I went to Girl Scouts for my first time on time and nobody was home! Then I called some other girls in my troops and there’s only a metting [sic] the 2, 4 Tuesday of every month.
Darn!

To the current third graders of the world. I am so sorry that you will never get to write this kind of bad ass journal entry when YOU are in fourth grade. My own distant-future children will never understand the raw excitement of an American shuttle launch, and for this, I hope there is still a space camp in the distant-future where they can apply for scholarships to attend.

Reflections from a Trailer Park
Mom: I think Curious George books would be really good for the kids in this neighborhood.
Me: Because they are all in early elementary school?
Mom: No. Because they are all very precocious. And that little George was VERY precocious.
Me: I see.
Mom: And did you know that the Man in the Yellow Hat used to smoke a pipe at the end of every book? That's probably not as good for these kids.
